Appearance:

Acted by Paris Hilton, Amber Sweet has the standard “ideal” female body. She is displeased with her own appearance, and so tries to change it all the time. She swaps wigs and hairstyles; currently she has long copper curls, other times she has a short black bob. Her eyes are blue; the only thing that remains constant about her. Her wardrobe varies from cabaret/flapper girl, 20’s vintage, Goth (think leather corset and garters), and modern rococo. She is also obsessed with surgery, using it as a fashion statement. Later, in the brothels, it becomes her trademark. A black stitch-mark runs from her right shoulder down across her breast.

Personality:

Amber is Daddy’s little girl. He’s busy maintaining his own company, so he doesn’t pay much attention to her. He generally considers her to be a nuisance and an embarrassment, so he pretty much lets her have whatever she wants, to do away with her. She craves his attention and does whatever it takes to get it. This included neglecting her duties, and her addiction to surgery and drugs. She can’t just own the whorehouse and Opera house; she has to be the starlet.

She is selfish, self-loathing, and always wants to change her appearance. She secretly envies those who have respect, since she seems to have none. Her motivations, aside from gaining the spotlight: control, and acceptance. She wants to get a hold of herself, but she had few other talents, and at this point is too far in to go back.

History:

In the original plot, Rotti Largo (Amber’s father) owned a company called GeneCo, which provided cheap surgery to anyone who wanted it. The catch: if you didn’t pay up, the Repo (repossession) man would come to reclaim the organ surgery was performed upon, likely killing the client in the process. This act was legal, by the way.

Amber and her two brothers, Pavi and Luigi, were his incompetent children, who he didn’t see fit to run the company. Amber was “addicted to the knife” (surgery), and Zydrate, a drug that eased the pain of surgery (legally used in the surgery procedure, but easy to abuse) This drug was resold on the black market. A grave robber would take Zydrate out of the bodies dumped by the Repomen (since Zydrate was still in the system of the bodies). Amber would sneak to the back alleys with a couple of guards, to buy the street product.

She seldom bothered to attend events/business related to GeneCo. Her father gave in to her addiction to surgery (in theory, he may have started her on it so she could be spokeswoman of GeneCo). He disliked her bad habit for Zydrate, and forced her to become spokeswoman for rehab.

As spokeswoman, her “competitor” was Mag, the friend of Rotti’s ex-lover. She was blind, so Rotti had her sign a contract that would give her new eyes that would allow her to see (and could also project holograms). In exchange, she would have to serve GeneCo’s image as an opera singer for a lifetime. After 20 years, Mag doesn’t want to sing anymore, and at one point refuses. Amber sees this as her opportunity to take over. She isn’t nearly as good, sounding more like a cabaret singer than an opera singer. By the way, her face peels off mid-performance.

Rotti Largo ultimately tries to disown his kids and change the inheritance before he dies. He wants the daughter of his ex-lover to own Geneco. He fails, and it looks like Amber has to step up and take over the company, splitting the company with her brothers.

Alternate Treno History:

I’m thinking Dark City Treno is a parallel universe. Amber has a strained relationship with her father, who ignores her because he is busy with the company, and sees her as incompetent. His disappointment in her grows, as she continually ignores her duties at the company, and needs his money to feed her fix. She destroys her body on the inside with drugs, and mars herself on the outside with surgery in the name of fashion. After finding her passed out with a needle in her arm, entangled in the bodies of men and women from the whorehouse, he decides to disown her. He says he will no longer support her fix, and that she’ll have to find work of her own.

Before she can complain that he’s leaving her on the streets, he says he will fund one of her “establishments” before leaving her on her own. After the unexpected success with the Garden of Moths, she uses profits and pulls some strings to get a conjoint Opera House (much like the famed Moulin Rouge). She is trying to become the main opera singer, but her father is keeping an eye on the place to make sure his investments don’t crash and burn. He still has pull, which means his talent-less daughter has to hire an opera singer. Word has it someone else is the brains of operation behind the whorehouse too.

Ladies, I'm looking for someone to star in my new Opera House. Prove to me you can hold the stage, and we can talk large salary. You'll get a luscious boudoir, and a wardrobe to die for. Tryouts take place in the Garden of Moths.

So. Why did she change her name? There were a few reasons. One: Dad disowned her, so there was no point in keeping the name on the birth certificate. Who are we fooling? They stopped having a father-daughter relationship a long time ago. She was a leech, a huge scar to his reputation. Two: Nobody keeps their name in the whore business anyways. Most girls that walked into the brothel forgot their name the minute they stepped into her door. The girls spared each other the trouble of ever mentioning the switch, and the same went for her. Oh, they knew who she was alright, but everything was hush-hush.

But there was something else, something more important. Amber Sweet didn't have the pressure Carmela Largo did. She didn't have to look forward to living up to the inheritance to Rotti Largo's company, only to fail his every standard. And no, it wasn't just the drugs, or the surgery; though God knows it hurt to see the disappointment in the old man's eyes every time she cam home strung out and high with a new set of stitches across her thighs. Or that every thing she did was a scandal. Amber knew that no matter what she did, she would never be the daughter her father wanted. She was a living reminder of her mother, the woman her father never wanted to marry. For some reason he preferred a little runt he never met, the daughter of his dead ex who had dumped him eighteen years ago.
